Full Stack Developer Salary in Colombia: 2026 Pay Guide

GENTY recruitment··12 min read

A full stack developer in Colombia earns roughly COP 4.2 million to COP 9.6 million per month at a local company, which one 2026 salary guide puts at about $12,500 to $28,500 per year. Developers working remotely for US employers are paid well above that band, and the Deel H1 2026 median for remote software developers in Colombia was $43,000 per year. This guide breaks down both numbers by seniority, city and stack, so a CTO or founder can set an offer that is competitive in Bogotá and Medellín and still well below a US salary.

TL;DR

  • Local full stack pay in Colombia spans about COP 4.8 million per month for juniors to COP 9 million and up for seniors, according to Coderhouse’s 2026 guide.
  • Remote roles for foreign companies pay about 2.4 times the local mid-level range in dollars, per Entrevia’s salary analysis.
  • Colombia sits in the US Eastern timezone band for most of the year, and the overlap with Pacific teams is a workable half day.
  • Budget the salary, then add employer contributions, equipment and recruitment cost before you compare against a US hire.
  • GENTY recruitment places pre-vetted Colombian full stack engineers from $2,999 per hire, with no upfront payment.

What full stack developers earn in Colombia in 2026

Three sources give a consistent picture, with differences that come from what each one measures.

  • Local salary guides: Entrevia reports a local full stack range of COP 4.2 million to COP 9.6 million per month, equal to $12,500 to $28,500 per year.
  • Self-reported salary data: Glassdoor lists a mid-level full stack developer range of COP 3.5 million to COP 11.5 million per month, with a median total pay of COP 7.5 million.
  • Live job postings: a September 2026 listing for a remote Node.js and React full stack role in Colombia advertised COP 6 million to COP 8 million per month.

The overlap is a mid-level developer at COP 6 million to COP 8 million monthly. That is the figure to anchor on if you are hiring someone with three to five years of experience, a solid React and Node.js stack, and no international contract history.

A note on COP to USD conversion

Peso figures are what Colombian candidates think in, and dollar equivalents shift with the exchange rate. USD/COP was about 3,179 on October 30, 2026, and the peso has strengthened sharply over the past year. Many published guides convert at older rates, so their dollar figures can look lower than today’s conversion of the same peso salary. When you build an offer, convert at the current rate and think about whether you want to pay in USD or COP, since a candidate who expects pesos and receives dollars will compare against the peso value at payment time.

Full stack developer salary in Colombia by seniority

Coderhouse’s 2026 guide gives the clearest ladder by experience. The table uses its monthly peso figures and the approximate dollar values it publishes.

Source: Coderhouse, Sueldo de un Desarrollador Full Stack en Colombia en 2026. The guide notes that international contracts can exceed these bands.

For seniors, crowd-sourced data is a useful cross-check. Glassdoor reports an average of COP 9,376,667 per year and a typical range of COP 7,208,354 to COP 15,906,250 for senior full stack developers, based on 41 anonymous salaries through October 2026. The sample is small and the annual framing differs from the monthly figures above, so treat it as a sign that senior pay varies widely rather than as a precise benchmark. A senior with a strong cloud and TypeScript profile will sit at the top of whichever range you use.

What a daily rate looks like

Colombian developers who contract directly usually quote a monthly or hourly figure rather than a daily one, and we found no reliable published daily-rate benchmark for full stack roles. As arithmetic only: a COP 7,500,000 monthly salary spread over roughly 21 working days gives about COP 357,000 per day before any contractor premium. Independent contractors price in a premium over that figure because they cover their own health contributions, pension and downtime. Ask for the all-in monthly number in USD and compare it to the salary-plus-contributions cost of an employee.

Software engineer pay at larger employers

Full stack developers are a subset of software engineers, and larger product companies set the top of the local market. Levels.fyi reported a median total compensation of about COP 121.8 million per year for software engineers in Colombia as of June 2026. At Mercado Libre, the Levels.fyi data updated October 17, 2026 shows total compensation of COP 121.88 million for a Software Engineer, COP 160.09 million for a Senior Software Engineer and COP 171.8 million for a Technical Leader.

Mercado Libre engineer compensation by level

This matters for your offer because those are the numbers a strong Colombian senior compares you against. A US startup that offers a senior full stack engineer a local-market salary competes with regional tech employers that publish stock-inclusive packages. Winning that candidate usually means a USD-denominated contract at or above the local top of the band, which is still far below a US salary.

Remote work for US companies: the real premium

The jump from local to remote pay is the main reason Colombian engineers take foreign contracts, and the main reason your offer has to be calibrated to the remote market rather than the local one.

  • Median remote pay: Deel’s H1 2026 data puts the median annual salary for remote software developers in Colombia at $43,000.
  • Multiple of local pay: for mid-level full stack developers, Entrevia estimates that remote work for a US company pays about 2.4 times the local range in dollars.
  • Senior behavior: at senior level and above, the same analysis says foreign employers pay more to avoid a bad hire than to save money.

That last point is the practical one. Saving 40% against a US salary is realistic at mid-level, and the savings narrow only slightly if you pay a senior well, because the US comparison is still $150,000 or more in total cost for many markets. Underpaying a senior in Medellín to squeeze the budget tends to cost you in turnover, and replacing an engineer costs more than the salary gap. For a worked view of the savings, see our breakdown of hiring costs for US tech employers in Latin America.

Sample budget for one mid-level hire

Using the Deel median as a reference point, a mid-level full stack engineer on a USD contract might cost your company:

  1. Base compensation: around $43,000 per year, the Deel H1 2026 median for remote developers in Colombia.
  2. Employment structure: either an employer of record or a contractor agreement, which adds a monthly fee. Our remote staffing and EOR service starts at $99 per employee per month.
  3. Equipment and connectivity: a laptop, plus a stipend for internet and a mobile plan. Teams that spread across countries often standardize this with local mobile plans for cross-border teams.
  4. Recruitment: a one-off fee per hire. GENTY recruitment’s IT recruitment starts at $2,999 per hire.

That is a fully loaded cost that remains well under half of a typical US full stack hire in a major metro, before equity and US benefits are counted.

What moves a full stack salary in Colombia

The same title can span a factor of two or more. Coderhouse identifies Bogotá, Medellín and international remote work as the strongest-paying channels, and lists the factors that raise compensation.

Stack

React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js and NestJS are the stacks the guide ties to higher pay. A developer who owns the whole path from a React front end through a NestJS API to a managed database is the profile US startups are usually hiring when they write “full stack.” Add cloud skills, such as deploying to AWS or GCP with infrastructure as code, and the candidate moves up a band.

English level

English is listed as a pay factor, and it is the one most US employers test first. A candidate who can run a design review in English commands a visible premium over one who reads documentation but avoids calls. In our screening, we check English in a live technical conversation, not on a CV line. A practical way to calibrate level is to run a structured technical round with a bank of full stack developer interview questions covering front end, APIs, databases and deployment.

Industry

Fintech, SaaS and globally oriented consultancies pay more than local agencies and traditional enterprises. Colombia has an active fintech scene, so a developer with payments or compliance experience has several local alternatives, and your offer has to be better than those, not just better than the average.

City and company type

Bogotá and Medellín concentrate the senior talent and the competing employers. Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga also have strong engineers, often with less local competition for their time, but remote work erases most of the city effect once the contract is in USD.

Timezone alignment with US teams

Colombia does not observe daylight saving time, so Bogotá runs on UTC-5 all year. That matches US Eastern Standard Time in winter, and in summer Colombia is one hour behind Eastern Daylight Time. For a team on the Pacific coast, Colombia is two to three hours ahead depending on the season. In practice this gives you four to six overlapping hours for stand-ups, pairing and code review with East Coast teams and a workable four or five with PST teams, without asking anyone to work nights. That is the main operational difference between Colombia and offshore options in Asia or Eastern Europe, where synchronous work usually means one side shifts hours.

Brazil and Argentina are also close to US Eastern time, and our software developer salary guide for Brazil is useful if you want to compare markets before you commit. Our guide to DevOps contractor rates in Colombia covers the infrastructure side of the same team.

How to set the offer

Use this checklist before you publish a role or send an offer to a Colombian full stack developer.

  • [ ] Decide the level (junior, semi-senior, senior) by what the person will own, not by years alone.
  • [ ] Pick the currency. USD contracts are standard for international roles, and COP offers are standard for local employers.
  • [ ] Anchor on the remote market for the level: about $43,000 per year for the median, and more for senior engineers with cloud and TypeScript depth.
  • [ ] Decide the structure: employer of record, local entity or contractor, and what that costs per month.
  • [ ] Budget for equipment, connectivity and a year-end bonus, since Colombian employees expect legal bonuses on top of base pay.
  • [ ] Define the working-hours overlap with your team, for example 9:00 to 14:00 Eastern.
  • [ ] Confirm the current exchange rate on the day you issue the offer.

To check whether your offer is competitive for your stack, our salary benchmarking tools comparison shows which data sources to trust, and our guide to hiring remote developers walks through the process end to end.

Perspective

Most of the offers we see fail for the same reason: the budget is set from a US salary minus a discount, not from the market the candidate actually sits in. A senior full stack engineer in Bogotá has local employers, regional unicorns and other US startups all making offers in the same month.
Our view is that the best use of the Colombia advantage is not the lowest salary. It is a fair USD offer, a clear scope, and a shortlist of engineers who have already been screened for stack depth and spoken English. That is why GENTY recruitment works only on Latin America, with a dedicated recruiter per vertical, and why we vet each shortlist three times before you spend an hour on interviews.
The savings are still large, up to 40% against US or European hiring by our own estimate, and you keep timezone overlap with your team. The difference is that you keep the person, too.

FAQ

What is the average full stack developer salary in Colombia?

At local companies, the range is roughly COP 4.2 million to COP 9.6 million per month, or about $12,500 to $28,500 per year, according to Entrevia. Remote developers working for foreign employers have a Deel median of $43,000 per year. Use the remote figure if you are a US company hiring on a USD contract.

Are full stack developers paid more than other developers in Colombia?

Pay depends more on seniority, stack and employer than on the title. Coderhouse links higher pay to React, Node.js, TypeScript, cloud skills, English and work in fintech or SaaS. Full stack engineers with those skills tend to land in the upper half of the software engineering range.

Should I pay a Colombian developer in USD or COP?

For a remote role at a US company, USD is the norm and what most candidates will expect, while local employers publish offers in COP. Whichever you choose, check the exchange rate when you issue the offer, because the peso has moved considerably over the past year. Your payroll or employer-of-record provider can handle local contributions either way.

How much can I save compared with a US full stack hire?

By our own estimate, clients save up to 40% compared with US or European hiring, while keeping timezone overlap. The exact figure depends on level, benefits and structure, so compare fully loaded costs rather than base salary alone.
