Certuma launches Argentina operations with US$10M seed round led by 8VC
Certuma, a clinical artificial intelligence startup founded in December 2025 by Argentine-Spanish serial entrepreneur Martín Varsavsky, has initiated operations in Argentina following a US$10 million seed financing round led by 8VC, the Austin-based venture capital firm cofounded by Joe Lonsdale, who also cofounded data analytics company Palantir with Peter Thiel.
Varsavsky brings over three decades of serial entrepreneurship, having founded more than ten companies including telecommunications firms Jazztel and Viatel, autonomous mobility venture Goggo Network, and reproductive health companies Prelude Fertility, Overture Life, and Gameto. Gameto has secured FDA Investigational New Drug approval and is currently in Phase 3 trials. Bruno Marino, appointed Head of LATAM for Certuma, is directing regional growth from Argentina.
The seed capital will fund two parallel regulatory tracks: FDA approval in the United States and homologation by Argentina's ANMAT, the national regulatory authority for medical products. Certuma is scaling its clinical platform and infrastructure to serve healthcare institutions across Latin America.
Certuma's core technology is MedCanon, a proprietary clinical reasoning engine powering Certuma Copilot, an AI assistant that records and organizes information during medical consultations, assists with clinical reasoning, and automates administrative tasks. In Argentina, where diagnosis and prescription remain exclusive legal prerogatives of licensed physicians, Certuma operates strictly as an assistant without making clinical decisions.
